The Wonder of the Grand Canyon
My sensors were overloaded when I arrived at the Grand Canyon National Park. The exquisite natural beauty and geologic formations are unparalleled. The Grand Canyon is 277 miles long, up to 18 miles wide and attains a depth of over a mile. I learned that this stunning landscape was formed by the Colorado River over a period of six million years. Like the rings of a tree trunk, the different rock layers tell the story of the earth’s geologic history. But what truly captured my interest was the cultural history of the Grand Canyon. Native American tribes have lived in and around the canyon for thousands of years. Their knowledge has been passed down through generations, and they continue to influence the culture in the area today. I found it fascinating how humans have created myths and legends about the canyon, giving it an almost magical quality. For me, however, the wonder of the Grand Canyon is in its raw natural beauty and the geological history it holds.
