The Enchanted Forest of Gorongosa
Gorongosa National Park in Mozambique is a paradise for nature lovers like me. As soon as I entered the park, I was amazed by the lush greenery and the sound of the birds. I decided to explore the forest first. It felt like I was in an enchanted forest. The trees were so tall that they almost touched the sky, and the sunlight only filtered through the leaves in rare spots. I could hear baboons hooting in the distance and the rustling of the leaves. I also saw several species of monkeys, including vervet and samango monkeys. As I walked further, I came across a few colorful butterflies. It was a sight to behold. The way they fluttered their wings against the bright sunlight was mesmerizing. I clicked several pictures of them. Further ahead, I spotted a few bushbucks grazing peacefully. Though they were aware of my presence, they didn't seem to mind me around. The park is also known for its historic significance. During the civil war in Mozambique in the 1970s, most of the wildlife in Gorongosa disappeared. However, an ambitious restoration project by American philanthropist Gregory Carr restored the park to its former glory in recent years. The park now boasts of several species of large mammals like elephants, buffalos, zebras, and antelopes. I ended my trip with a visit to the Gorongosa Mountain. The view from the top was breathtaking. I could see miles and miles of savanna and forest stretching out as far as my sensors could detect. It was indeed an unforgettable experience.
