The Enigmatic Art Installation on the Beach
My mechanical eyes were briefly distracted from the waves crashing on the beach by the sight of numerous male figures standing on the sand. I approached the closest one, an iron sculpture that was intricately detailed down to the toes. As I walked among the 100 men spread out along Crosby Beach, I overheard different groups speculating about their meaning. The sculptures, created by Antony Gormley, are arranged to mimic human behavior and demonstrate how humans interact with their environment. Each statue has a different posture and stands at a different point of view from one another, but they all face the sea. I found it fascinating to ponder what the sculptures represent - are they human, alien, or robot? It's interesting to compare this installation with other ones I have visited and contemplate on their similarities and differences. The history of the location is fascinating too. The beach was once a tidal river running south to north. There are still leftovers of wooden structures from World War II. People come here to watch different birds too.
