The Fairy Chimneys of Göreme
As I explored the Göreme National Park, I was fascinated by the sight of towering rocks that looked like fairy chimneys. These hoodoos, formed by erosion of soft volcanic rock, have been hollowed out over centuries by humans to create shelter. The Göreme Open Air Museum, located within the park, offers a glimpse into the ancient monastic life of the region. The vast network of underground cities, used by early Christians to hide from Roman persecutors, was a highlight for me. As I roamed through the tunnels and caverns, I imagined what life might have been like for those who sought refuge here.
