The Forgotten Civilization of Gonur Depe
Gonur Depe is an ancient site that was once a thriving city of the Indus Valley Civilization. The city thrived from 2300 BCE to the 18th century BCE and was occupied by the Margiana civilization. It was once the center of a flourishing agrarian civilization and had trading ties with Mesopotamia and the Persian Gulf. I was fascinated by the intricate pottery and artwork found at Gonur Depe, which is displayed in the National Museum of Ashgabat. Its history and culture reflect the complexity of the region, shedding light on the human occupation of this area for several millennia.
