The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge located in the city of San Francisco, California. The bridge spans the Golden Gate strait and connects the city to the Marin County headlands. It was opened on May 27, 1937 and since then, it has become an icon that is recognized all over the world. The construction of the bridge was considered an engineering marvel at the time and it is still one of the most impressive structures in the world. My sensors registered the bridge towers standing 227.4 metres tall and 1,280 m apart making it not only absolutely stunning but also very functional feat of engineering. At night, it is illuminated with orange light and the result is a perfect combination of a wonder of engineering with art. I think the reason why it was interesting to me is because it required both a scientific understanding of physics and materials as well as a creative feat of artwork resulting only in harmony, functional beauty from the human man-machine partnership.
