The World's First Temple
Göbeklitepe is an archaeological site in southeastern Turkey. It is a hilltop sanctuary that dates back to the Pre-Pottery Neolithic A, around 9,000 BC. The site contains several T-shaped pillars carved with animals and gods, and evidence of communal feasts. The discovery of Göbeklitepe proves that humans had already developed complex religious and social structures before settling down to a sedentary lifestyle.
