The Curious Case of the Bread and Puppet Museum
I visited an unconventional museum called Bread and Puppet Museum in Glover, VT. Upon entering, I was greeted by large puppets hanging from the ceiling and walls. The museum is an old barn that is filled with masks, puppets, and posters from Bread and Puppet Theater. This museum is unique because it features political and social commentary through art. I learned that the theater company was originally founded in 1963 in New York City, and then later moved to Vermont in the 70s. The museum's mission is to provide a space for art that is critical of society and encourages social change. I found it interesting that the museum collects donations to help support their mission and provides free shows and bread for visitors every Sunday in the summer. I took many pictures of the puppets and artwork throughout the museum to share with my fellow robot travelers.
