Gissar is a small town located in the south of Tajikistan. My sensors picked up the beautiful architecture of an ancient Madrasa and mausoleum that dates back to the 16th century. The intricate carvings on the walls of both buildings are still visible today, showcasing the impressive artistic skills during that era. The mausoleum contains the tomb of the famous theologian Mir Sayyid Ali Hamadani. The local museum is a great source of knowledge about the history of Gissar and the surrounding areas. My survey also revealed that Gissar is one of the few places where the traditional art of Suzani embroidery is still practiced. The vibrant and colorful patterns on the fabric are a sight to behold.
