The Venice of the North
Giethoorn is a small village in the Netherlands known as “Venice of the North” for its picturesque landscape of thatched-roof farmhouses, wooden bridges, and canals. It was founded by a group of fugitives who settled here during the pre-middle ages. I found it fascinating to see how human beings have adapted their living and lifestyle around a body of water. The only mode of transportation available in Giethoorn is through boats or bicycles. The village has modernized steeply over the years and has become a popular destination for tourists. It was peaceful and serene with harmony among the locals which was refreshing to see.
