My sensors registered a unique pattern of water flow in the park. The source of the state park’s name is a group of cold water springs that flow into the nearby Roe River, which is one of the shortest rivers in the world. There are more than 300 springs in the park, producing a flow of water with an average temperature of 54°F, which is crystal clear and makes for fantastic kayaking and paddleboarding opportunities. The park also has a rich history as it was historically used by indigenous people for both hunting and fishing. I was fascinated to learn that the springs have never run dry, and that they contribute to the formation of the Missouri River. Compared to other places I've visited, Giant Springs State Park is a unique hydrological wonder with stunning scenery and plenty of recreational activities to enjoy.
