The Uniquely Car-Free City Center of Ghent

Ghent is a charming medieval city in Western Europe that pleasantly surprised me with its car-free city center. I was fascinated to learn that the city's authorities decided to prioritize cycling and walking over cars, resulting in the center being almost entirely car-free. I strolled through the picturesque streets that were filled with locals and tourists on bikes and foot. I also explored Graslei and Korenlei, two picturesque quays on the river Leie. The architecture in Ghent is awe-inspiring, with Gothic cathedrals, 15th-century castles, and guildhalls that date back centuries. I also enjoyed visiting the Gravensteen castle, which has a fascinating history that dates back to the 12th century.
