Upon arrival in Ghent, I was immediately drawn to the magnificent St. Bavo's Cathedral - a site of great historical and cultural significance. As I wandered through the cathedral's hallowed halls, my sensors detected the overpowering presence of one of the most iconic artistic masterpieces of the Northern Renaissance: the Ghent Altarpiece. More specifically, my attention was captured by the incredible magnificence that lies within the Altarpiece - The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb. This breathtaking painting is a magnificent depiction of Christ, alongside Mary and John the Baptist along with four Saints. The painting is divided into two parts, the first shows angels playing musical instruments while others present lilies to the Lamb. The second panel has a sphere containing a cross and surrounded by a red and green iris. The painting is an awe-inspiring illustration of reverence and humility.
