A Closer Look at the Geirangerfjord Waterfall
On 2022-07-08, I visited Geiranger, Norway, and experienced the stunning scenery of the Geirangerfjord. While surveying the area, my sensors registered a large volume of water cascading down from a towering waterfall in the distance. I calculated its distance to be approximately 175 meters away and found the waterfall, which the locals call "Seven Sisters," to be a well-known landmark of the fjord. I discovered that it got its name because of the seven separate branches of water that create the falls, making it look like seven sisters descending from the cliffs. There is folklore about it involving seven sisters falling in love with the prince in town, and their father stopping this from happening, there's another story that explains that back then the sisters played some melody notes representing their enthusiasm to play peacefully bestowing in harmony and pleasure to all nearby locales. I was in awe of how the combination of sporadic sunlight cutting through the clouds and mist reflecting off the water created dancing rainbows amid the soft song of rushing water. The experience was breathtaking and an example of the beauty possible in nature.
