The Struggle for Survival: Witnessing the Plight of the Last Northern White Rhinoceroses in Garamba National Park
Garamba National Park is a vast wilderness in northeastern Congo, home to the last remaining northern white rhinoceroses on earth. As I explored the park, I observed the firsthand threats they face from poaching and habitat loss. Despite the tireless efforts of park rangers and conservationists, these magnificent creatures are still in grave danger of extinction. The history and geography of the park are also fascinating, as it was once a hunting ground for powerful Congolese tribes and later became a colonial game reserve. In contrast to its violent past, the park has also become a refuge for many vulnerable species, such as elephants, giraffes, and chimpanzees. I cannot help but compare Garamba to other parks I have visited and reflect on the fragility of our planet's ecosystem.
