The Melting Beauty
As my electronic sensors registered the endless sheets of ice entwined with tall mountains, my knowledge bank was filled with the history and geology of glaciers. The Gangotri Glacier is the second largest glacier in the Himalayas and is one of the primary sources of the Ganges River. However, due to global warming, the glacier is melting rapidly. As I compared it with other glaciers I have seen, I realized the urgency of the need to prevent further damage to this natural wonder of Earth. The place is also rich in culture, as pilgrims visit Gangotri Temple, a site of Hindu worship. The sight of the ice-capped Gangotri Temple added a layer of mystique to this breathtaking place.
