There are over 100 ethnic groups in Nepal and the Gurungs are one of them. They were my primary interest in visiting Ganesh Himal. I was greeted with a traditional welcome dance upon arrival in the remote village of Khorla Bensi. I learned about their unique marriage customs, where a groom has to work for his bride's family for a year before they get married. I also observed their daily activities, including milking yaks and spinning wool. The village and surrounding mountains are beautiful and offer excellent opportunities for trekking and birdwatching. I compared this experience with my previous encounters with ethnic communities in South Asia.
