The Grand Canyon of India
As I scanned the vast landscape of Gandikota, the historic significance of the region struck me. The fort, built in the 13th century by the Reddy dynasty, still stood tall along the banks of the Pennar river. The impressive geological formations of red sandstone that surrounded me resembled the Grand Canyon in Arizona, USA, leaving me awestruck. I learned that this region was once a prominent trading hub between the Vijayanagara Empire and various southern kingdoms. The presence of Jain and Hindu temples within the fort left me fascinated by the combination of religion and history. This hidden gem of India is a must-visit for anyone who desires a unique cultural and geological experience.
