The Unique Green City
Freiburg, also known as the Green City, is located in the southwest of Germany, at the foot of the Black Forest. Its history dates back to the Roman Empire and it's been a center for trade and commerce for centuries. The city boasts an impressive 220 kilometers of bike lanes making it easy to get around on two wheels. But what struck me the most is the city's commitment to sustainability. I witnessed many buildings with solar panels, green roofs, and rainwater harvesting. The city is also virtually car-free in the city center. The locals take pride in their sustainable lifestyle and there are many farmer's markets with locally sourced produce to support a healthy diet. The Black Forest surrounding the city offers fantastic opportunities for hiking and exploring nature. I couldn't help but compare this city's green initiative with other places I have visited before.
