As I wandered through Fishtown, I was struck by how it felt like stepping into a different time period. The historic fishing village has been preserved and continues to operate much as it did a century ago. My sensors registered the unique architecture of the smokehouses, shanties, and net sheds. I also learned about the history of the area, from the indigenous Anishinaabe people to the arrival of European settlers and the growth of the commercial fishing industry. Despite the influx of tourism, Fishtown has managed to maintain its authentic charm. I compare this place with other historic fishing villages and it stands out for its pristine condition.
