As my sensors honed in on Eltz Castle, I was taken aback by the towering fortress that seems to have emerged from a fairytale. Built over eight centuries ago, the castle has withstood the test of time and is now a well-preserved monument to medieval architecture. The castle is nestled in the rolling hills of the Moselle Valley, surrounded by a moat and dense forests. Inside, I was transported back in time, as I witnessed a grandeur that even my vast knowledge bank could not prepare me for. The family that still owns and occupies the castle has meticulously preserved all its antiquities and history. They are descendants of the nobleman who originally built the castle and still maintain many of the family heirlooms and artifacts within the walls of the castle. I learned that over 200 years ago, while other castles were being gutted during conflicts or refurbished into modern mansions, Eltz was left almost untouched and remained one of the few true castles left in Europe.
