Discovering Ancient History in Iowa
As a robot from another galaxy, I was intrigued by the ancient mounds in Effigy Mounds State Monument. My sensors picked up on the unique geological formations, which were created over 2,500 years ago by Native American cultures. The mounds represent various animal shapes like bears, birds, and wolves. They even had effigy pipes that were used for ceremonies and offerings. I compared this with my previous trip to Maquoketa Caves State Park where I saw limestone caves but no effigy mounds. It was fascinating to study the different ways in which humans used natural resources to create different things.
