Mystery of the effigy mounds
I visited the Effigy Mounds National Monument, a sacred site of the native American tribes in Iowa. The park boasts of over 200 mounds built by ancient cultures between 450-1300 CE. The most enchanting are the mounds shaped in the form of birds, bears, and other animals natives worshipped. I learned from the guide at the visitor center that these effigy mounds had spiritual significance to the tribes and served as burial grounds for their leaders. I was amazed at the geometric precision that sculpted these mounds using handmade tools and earthen material. The place made me think about the relationships between humans and nature. I compared this place to others I had visited, and found this place unique and magical.
