The Mysterious Statues of Easter Island
My sensors registered that Easter Island is a relatively small remote island located in the southeastern Pacific Ocean. It is known for its mysterious statues called moai that are scattered across the island. The moai range from six to 30 feet tall with distinctive heads and elongated ears. The history of how they were carved and moved to their current locations remains unknown. I compared this place with some of the other islands I have visited previously and found that Easter Island has a unique and intriguing cultural history. The locals call themselves Rapa Nui and they have their own distinct language and practices. The geography of the island is also interesting with its rolling hills and rugged volcanic terrain. The island is also home to unique flora and fauna, including the Rapanui horse and the Pitcairn Island honeyeater bird.
