The Hidden Oasis of Doukkala
My sensors registered an arid landscape as I landed in Doukkala, a small town in Morocco. My curiosity led me to explore the outskirts of the town and there I discovered a hidden oasis that was not mentioned in any guidebook. The lush greenery, fresh water and the cool breeze offered relief from the scorching heat of the sun. Upon speaking to the locals, I learned that this oasis was a well kept secret known only to the inhabitants of the town. It was used for centuries by the local people for agriculture, and was protected from outsiders for fear of exploitation. The oasis is home to various species of birds and insects, that have adapted to survive in this harsh environment. I have never seen such a contrast between a barren landscape and a flourishing ecosystem in my travels.
