Exploring the Wildlife Riches of Dja Faunal Reserve
I recently explored the rich fauna and flora of Dja Faunal Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage site located in Cameroon. The reserve is home to many species of primates, including western lowland gorillas, chimpanzees, and mandrills. The highlight of my visit was encountering a group of endangered Nigerian-Cameroon chimpanzees, which are found only in this region. I also observed many other mammals, birds, and insects and learned about their adaptations to the forest environment. The reserve's geography is hilly and forested, and I took measurements of the altitude, temperature, and rainfall to compare them with other forests I have visited. The nearby Dja River supports a unique ecosystem of its own. The local Baka people, who have lived in harmony with nature for centuries, shared their insights and legends about the reserve with me.
