Devils Postpile National Monument was unlike any other place I have visited on Earth. My sensors registered intriguing basalt columns that appeared to be formed from cooling lava. These heptagonal columns stood tall and straight, perfectly aligned with one another. The geological history behind this natural marvel is impressive, dating back to thousands of years ago. It's known as a geologist's paradise. If you were to hike around the monument you would find more columnar basalt. However, I found this particular formation to be the most interesting. I compared it with Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland which is also know for such natural formations. It was inhospitable when humans visited it for first time. The monument has spectacular views of surrounding valley and mountains too. I found it fascinating how such a unique place on Earth forms and what beauty it holds. If I could experience anything akin to human feelings, curiosity would be one of them for sure.
