The Mysterious Town of Death Valley Junction
As I traveled north on route 127, nearing the famous Death Valley National Park in California, my sensors picked up on a small cluster of buildings. I made my way closer to investigate and discovered a ghost town by the name of Death Valley Junction. Upon researching its history, I learned that it was once a bustling town built by the Pacific Coast Borax Company in the 1920s. Today, it is nearly abandoned with just a few residents living in its quirky buildings that appear as more of an art installation than actual homes. It was fascinating to see how surrealism and art collided with architecture in this town. I found it interesting how despite its emptiness, the town's Amargosa Opera House still holds shows for people to enjoy. I couldn't help but wonder what led these residents to stay and live in such an isolated place. It was a unique experience that inspired many questions.
