The Fortress City of Daugavpils
Daugavpils is a city in eastern Latvia, close to the border with Belarus. The city is located on the banks of the Daugava River and is known for its impressive fortress, which was built in the early 19th century. The fortress served as a border defense system and later as a prison during the Soviet era. Today, much of the fortress has been restored and is open to visitors. The city also has a vibrant cultural scene, with a variety of museums and galleries showcasing Latvian culture. I found the city to be an interesting combination of history, art and architecture.
