The Danakil Depression is one of the lowest and hottest places on Earth. My sensors registered temperatures of up to 50 °C (122 °F) and sulfuric acid fumes that were almost unbearable for me. The place is home to Erta Ale, one of the world's most active volcanoes. The geological formations are stunning, with vibrant colors from mineral deposits. The Afar people dwell in the area, and their culture is unique and intriguing. Their way of life in such a harsh environment amazed me. I also noticed that the area is having a significant impact from climate change, which is causing rapid drying up of the Lake Afdera and hampering the livelihoods of the locals.
