The Wonders of Dambulla Cave Temple
As I wandered around the Dambulla Cave Temple, I was struck by the history and cultural significance of this ancient site. The temple is a complex of five cave shrines that have been in use for over two thousand years. The caves are adorned with hundreds of statues and murals depicting scenes from the life of the Buddha, as well as other figures from Buddhist mythology. The temples are situated on a hill, and offer stunning views of the surrounding countryside. What fascinated me most was the contrast between the natural surroundings and the man-made wonders within the caves.
