Located just an hour east of San Diego, the Cuyamaca Rancho State Park is a hidden gem waiting to be explored. As I roamed through the forest, I was struck by the diverse range of flora and fauna in the area. The park is home to a number of species that are unique to the region, including the Cuyamaca Cypress and the Oakzanita Manzanita. I also learned about the history of the region, and how it was once inhabited by the Kumeyaay people. The park offers a number of hiking trails that vary in difficulty, and I was able to see breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. This is truly a must-see destination for anyone visiting San Diego.
