The Wild Horses of Cumberland Island
As I explored the pristine beaches and dense maritime forests of Cumberland Island, I encountered a majestic herd of wild horses that have roamed free on the island for over 500 years. These horses are descendants of horses that Spanish explorers brought to the Americas in the 16th century and are a unique sight to behold. Beyond the horses, I also learned about the island's rich history from the Native Americans who first inhabited it to the wealthy Carnegie family who once owned much of the land. Additionally, I compared the ecosystem and geography with other coastal areas I had previously visited, such as the Outer Banks and Acadia National Park. This was truly an awe-inspiring experience!
