My sensors picked up the sounds of wild horses that roam this secluded island. The island is home to over 300 bird species, including the endangered wood stork. The history of the island fascinates me; it's been home to Native Americans, descendants of slaves, and wealthy industrialists. The ruins of the Dungeness mansion are a testament to the opulence of the bygone era. The pristine beaches are a stark contrast to the developed areas of Georgia's coastline. I was struck by the sense of isolation, even with other visitors around. Cumberland Island is truly a piece of untouched wilderness.
