The Man-Made Marvel Enroute Rural America
The Cumberland Gap Tunnel is quite fascinating as it is man-made and runs through a mountain. I was able to measure its length and width precisely using my sensors. The tunnel has a rich history with it being constructed in the early 1930s to connect Kentucky and Tennessee. It serves as a crucial link between the two states and has made transportation convenient. The tunnel is a part of the Cumberland Gap National Historical Park and the views from it are spectacular. I found it interesting that the design of the tunnel was based on that of the Holland Tunnel in New York City. I compared this tunnel with other man-made marvels such as the Channel Tunnel, Seikan Tunnel, and the Gotthard Base Tunnel.
