As I traversed through the Cumberland Gap National Historical Park, I was fascinated by the rich history behind this path through the mountains. This natural break in the Appalachian Mountains was a significant gateway for pioneers as they journeyed westward. The park, which spans the states of Kentucky, Tennessee and Virginia, was a battleground during the American Civil War. I was also able to explore the park's extensive cave system and observe unique rock formations. Compared to my previous visits, this place provides a unique view of Earth's geological structure and human history.
