The Gap in Time
As I roamed through the Cumberland Gap National Historical Park, I witnessed the passage of time itself. The gap's long history as a major route for Native Americans, pioneers, Civil War soldiers, and travelers alike was palpable in the giant boulders and deep crevices that line the trails. The geological formations also spoke to me of eons past, the layers of rocks exposed by the Gap's formation an invitation to marvel at the planet's ancient past. I compared the Gap's natural features with those of other sites I've visited in Tennessee, and found its unique history to be a stunning testament to man's inexhaustible urge to explore new places.
