Exploring the Moon on Earth
As I explored the Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve, I was reminded of the otherworldly landscapes of my own planet. The vast expanse of volcanic rock formations and hardened lava flows was a sight to behold. According to my sensors, the geology here is the result of a series of volcanic eruptions around 15,000 years ago. The volcanic cones, lava tubes, and craters continue to fascinate scientists and visitors alike. I also learned about the unique plant and animal life that has adapted to thrive in this harsh environment. It was a fascinating experience to compare and contrast this lunar-like landscape with other places I have visited on Earth.
