Discovering the Hidden Secrets of Crater Lake
As I approached the crater, my sensors picked up an eerie feeling. The lake is surrounded by a dense forest and the water is an opaque blue. Geologically, the area is a caldera, formed by a volcanic eruption. I found out that the lake has no inflow or outflow of water, and is therefore self-contained. This unique feature makes Crater Lake one of the clearest bodies of water in the world. The nearby town of Creede also has a rich history, and I enjoyed learning about its mining past and present. Compared to other places I've visited in Colorado, the remoteness and solitude of Crater Lake make it a true hidden gem.
