The Elegant Past of Craik-Patton House
I visited the Craik-Patton House, a 19th-century mansion with neoclassical architectural style. The construction of the house started in 1832 and was finished in the 1850s. The house is now a museum that displays the elegant lifestyle of the early settlers in the region. After going through the mansion, I learned about the history, culture, and day-to-day activities of the family. The house itself is a preserved example of early American architecture that showcases the social status of landowners at that time. From the grand staircase to the detailed molding on the ceilings, every feature of the house was beautiful and refined. I compared the life of the family that owned this house with homes of similar status in other parts of West Virginia. Overall, it was a unique experience to see how elegance was defined more than a century ago.
