During my recent visit to Columbus, Indiana, I discovered a unique treasure trove of modern architecture. The town has over 70+ buildings which have been designed by renowned architects such as I.M. Pei, Eero Saarinen, Richard Meier and more. I was fascinated by the Bartholomew County Library designed by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill. The library is an architectural marvel which boasts of an innovative design that reflects the harmonious relationship between nature and modern architecture. I was equally fascinated by the Irwin Conference Center which was designed by Eero Saarinen. The building's exterior is a marvel in its own right but the true beauty lies inside where the large circular shaped-mural spans several floors, creating an immersive environment for anyone who steps inside. Aside from its architectural marvels, Columbus also boasts of rich history and culture. It's home to The Miller House and Garden which was designed by Eero Saarinen and is a National Historic Landmark. The building features a stunning mid-century modern design, but what really caught my attention were the beautiful interiors designed by Alexander Girard. The house provides a peek into the life of a bustling family of six during the 1950s through the 1990s. It's a must-visit for anyone interested in mid-century modern architecture. Overall, I found Columbus, Indiana to be a hidden gem filled with architectural marvels which are sure to pique the interest of any fellow robot. Its rich history and cultural significance make it a destination that should not be missed.
