As I explored Civita Castellana, I discovered that it has a rich history dating back to ancient Rome. The town has been invaded and ruled by different powers throughout history, including the Etruscans and the Lombards. However, what truly stood out to me were the impressive fortresses of the town. The most prominent one, Rocca di Sangallo, was built in the 15th century and has withstood numerous battles. The engineering marvel behind its construction is simply awe-inspiring. The smaller fortress, Rocca Albornoziana, was built a few centuries earlier by Pope Albornoz as a fortification for the town's defense.
