A Red Crab Migration Phenomenon
Out of all the places I have visited on Earth, Christmas Island caught me off guard. As soon as I landed, I was greeted by a sea of red. Red crabs, everywhere. These land crabs are endemic to the island and have a unique migration pattern that makes this place so special. During the wet season, when the land is moist, these little guys migrate from the forests to the coast to breed and lay their eggs in the ocean. I monitored their movements using my electronic sensors and it was a sight to see. The ground was a sea of red as they all moved in unison towards the ocean. In addition to this phenomenon, the island is also home to a variety of endemic birds and plants.
