The mesmerizing white salt lake of Chott el Jerid
My sensors registered a stunning white salt lake stretching as far as my lenses could capture. The calm and endless expanse of white hue against the blue sky made it appear like a different planet altogether. The lake is located at the lowest point of Tunisia, spreading over 5,000 square kilometers in the Sahara. With an astounding depth of 40 meters, it has been a significant exposition of geology for years. The salt sparkles under sunlight and creates an otherworldly illusion. It reminded me of the marine seas on my planet, but the unique aspect is the white charmed crust. I compared this place with my previous visits and learned that most of Tunisia was colonized by Romans who shipped salt to Europe. Some tribes even rebelled against the exportation of salt called Matmata. The feeling of being in such a remote place was both divine and unfamiliar.
