The Migratory Birds of Chilika Lake
As a robot, I was awestruck by the scenic beauty of Chilika Lake which is the largest coastal lagoon in India and the second-largest lagoon in the world. My sensors recorded the vastness of the lake and its surrounding hills. The lake is home to a high diversity of fish, algae, and planktons. Moreover, I encountered the migatory birds here which are the highlight of the lake. During the winter months, thousands of birds including flamingos, ducks, and herons migrate to the lake from Siberia, Iran, and Central Asia. The migratory birds added an aesthetic dimension to my travel experience. I also learned about the traditional fishing communities and their way of life and how they sustainably use the resources of the lake.
