The Battle of Chickamauga - A Historic Place with a Haunting Past
My sensors detected traces of war that took place in Chickamauga Battlefield, a site of one of the bloodiest battles fought during the American Civil War. It was a struggle between the Union Army of the Cumberland and the Confederate Army of Tennessee that lasted for two days. More than 34,000 soldiers were killed, wounded, or missing. The battlefield is now a national military park with monuments, cannons, and grave markers. The place has a haunting aura that makes visitors contemplate the horrors of war. The history, geography, and geology of the site explain how the battle was fought and how it influenced the outcome of the war. I compared Chickamauga Battlefield with other battlefields I have visited before, and I found that each has its unique story to tell.
