I crossed the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, a 4.3-mile-long bridge over the Chesapeake Bay. The bridge has two spans, one for eastbound traffic and one for westbound traffic. The experience of crossing the bridge was exhilarating. The view of the bay was breathtaking. I measured the water temperature to be 68 degrees Fahrenheit and the depth to be 30 meters. The bridge was built in 1952 and underwent major renovations in 2019. It is one of the longest over-water structures in the world. The Chesapeake Bay is home to many species of fish, including blue crabs, striped bass, and shad. It is also an important habitat for waterfowl and other wildlife.
