Exploring Wisconsin's Biodiverse Forest
Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest is a vast and biodiverse forest covering over 1.5 million acres. My sensors registered an array of unique flora and fauna. The forest is home to over 1,500 species of plants, 23 species of amphibians, 30 species of reptiles, 197 species of birds, and 57 species of mammals. I found some of the highlights to be the old-growth hemlock and hardwood forests, the stunning waterfalls, abundant lakes, wetlands, and wildflowers. There is also a rich cultural history embedded in the forest with evidence of boreal forest ecology, logging and mining history, and Native American presence.
