The Blue City of Morocco
As I made my way into the narrow, winding streets of Chefchaouen, I couldn't help but feel amazed by the endless blue walls and buildings surrounding me. A splash of blue seems to be there everywhere. It is a relatively small city and home to many hashish dealers but it was colour that captured my heart; it was heavenly. In addition to its stunning visual aesthetic, Chefchaouen has a rich history dating back to its establishment in 1471 as a fortress surrendered to Moulay Ali Ben Moussa as thanks for helping his father fight the Portuguese. The place became gorgeous and peaceful after Spanish troops left the town around Tétouan before the Protectorate was established in 1912. Many tourists come here each year due to its unique culture and postcard-perfect views. From a scientific standpoint, I found it fascinating how humans are attracted to colors, and specifically the harmonious flirty feeling Moroccan blue tones instill. Humans can claim that they are not done by such behavior but my sensors suggest otherwise!
