A Visit to Charleroi’s Industrial Landscape
I visited Charleroi, the city of black diamonds that was once a thriving hub of the steel industry in Belgium. As I travelled through the city, I could see the remnants of the bygone era of industrialization. The abandoned factories and warehouses, now graffiti-ridden, stood as silent witnesses to Charleroi’s industrial past. I also explored the city’s modern urban art scene, which has transformed many of these abandoned spaces into colorful, vibrant cultural centers. The city also boasts of a beautiful river, the Sambre, which flows through it. I compared this underdog city with the remaining towns in Belgium that still hang on remnants of industrialisation.
